There is no doubt that Glasgow as a city is continuing to flourish and prosper.
Change is constant and the city must be adaptable and geared to coping with the pace of change. Utilising the potential and creativity of all our citizens is the best preparation Glasgow can make in planning for the future with confidence.
Full employment is one of the city’s goals and, with dedicated and committed organisations throughout the city working together to achieve this, it is within our sights. The jobs are there and people want to work. The future workforce will be diverse, and some individuals may need a little extra support in making their way into employment and sustaining it, but we know that the will to work is there.
Equal Access is contributing to the city’s future and dovetailing with the Glasgow City Strategy.
The Equal Access team is supporting partners in Health, Social Care and Training and Employability services to progress concrete actions outlined in the City Strategy business plan.
Much good work has already been carried out throughout the city and Equal Access is building on these existing achievements.
Equal Access has a role to play in supporting the development of the skills of front line staff and ensuring that they have the knowledge and resources to work in new ways. A number of practical tools and support measures are in place to do this including
There is a team of Equal Access Managers in the city to assist area based employability strategies; as well as frontline Employability Workers based in the North and East areas of the City and a central team working on thematic linkages and providing city wide support services.
We encourage partners to come together, form new groups and keep the momentum of existing groups going in order to promote a co-ordinated approach to service delivery.
We also provide relevant training to staff teams to enhance the knowledge and skills of operational staff. Capturing and disseminating the lessons learned from new ways of working will continue to be our priority. Our aim is to draw on Glasgow’s resources across health, social care, training and employability organisations to ensure that all of Glasgow’s citizen’s have equal access to employment and have the opportunity to contribute to the future of the city.
As the City Strategy takes Glasgow further along the road to full employment, the momentum built up by partners within Equal Access is delivering real improvements in joint working. We are looking forward to better integration of service delivery that will lead to tangible impact on the City’s vision of full employment.
